A forward voltage is applied between anode and cathode with gate circuit open.
ï‚· Junction ð½1 and ð½3 is forward biased.
ï‚· Juntion ð½2 is reverse biased.
ï‚· As the anode to cathode voltage is increased breakdown of the reverse biased junction
ð½2 occurs. This is known as avalanche breakdown and the voltage at which this
phenomena occurs is called forward breakover voltage.
ï‚· The conduction of current continues even if the anode cathode voltage reduces below
ð‘‰ðµð‘‚till ð¼ð‘Ž will not go belowð¼â„Ž. Where ð¼â„Ž is the holding current for the thyristor.
