Algorithm: An algorithm is a set of rules and formulas that are developed to perform a specific function. It is essential to know this term because social media sites like Facebook and search engines like Google are always coming up with a new algorithm that needs to be considered by marketers for their marketing strategies. 

Avatar: It is usually a username or an image that represents a person's identity on a social platform or within forums. 

Blog: It is usually the content where information about a particular product is detailed and discussed. A company may own a blog or an individual who has in-depth knowledge about a specific domain. It can include everything ranging from images, text, links, and videos. 

Clickbait: Clickbait is a term that describes that part of marketing and advertising where enticing headlines are created to attract clicks. They focus on the curiosity gap of the users that pushes them to click on the link. 

Conversion rate: It is one of the metrics of the social media analytics that represents how many users completed an intended action. For example, filling a web form or following a page or subscribing to newsletters. 

Direct message or DM’s: When you want to send a private message to any of your friend or follower on a Twitter or Facebook account. 

Endorsement: When any of your connection on LinkedIn account recognized you for your skill that you have mentioned in your LinkedIn profile. 

Engagement rate: It is a popular metric for social media analytics that describes the amount of user engagement through likes, shares, comments, and others. 

Forums: Forum is an online message board that allows several people to share and discuss their views in a specific domain. 

Geotag: A geotag is used to provide directional coordinates to an online post. It is quite popular among the Instagram users where they use geotagging for specifying the location where a photo was taken. 

Handle: Handle is used to specify the Twitter @username of a  person/company/service. 

Hashtag: Hashtag is used to make information easily searchable for the users. It is a word or a phrase preceded by a hash(”#”) that social networks use to annotate messages. 

Link building: Link building is a part of search engine optimization where website owners develop strategies to garner more link to their sites from other websites. Blogging is one of the most popular ways of link building. 

Permalink: A link or website URL mentioned in an online post that remains unchanged for an indefinite period. 

PPC: Pay per click is an advertising model where an ad is displayed on different websites, and the site gets paid if a user clicks on that ad. 

Real-time marketing: This type of marketing involves publishing new content as soon as a new news break.  

Retargeting: Retargeting is a marketing strategy that focuses on customers who have shown interest in a website or product in some of the other way. The objective of this approach is to make these customers a lead or a buyer. 

Search engine optimization: Optimizing online business content as per the search engines algorithm and searches. 

Social media monitoring: The monitoring of the social media mentions of business and responding to it.
