What is content management?

Source: Wikipedia.com

Content management is the process of collecting, creating, managing and publishing information in any form on any medium. When this information is available on electronic media specifically computers, it is known as digital content or content.

Digital content is available in various forms such as text documents, audio or video files or any other file type that follows the content management lifecycle.

The process may sound simple, but it involves a massive amount of work that cannot be handled manually. As such, there is plenty of content management software available to control the significant aspects of content.

Content management practices are not one-directional, and they vary from one organization to other. An e-commerce website will use content management differently while an educational institute will handle it differently. Both of these sectors use content management, but the steps and goals involved in both the cases will be different.

Following are the roles and responsibilities involved in Content management:

1.)    Creator: Person responsible for content creation

2.)    Editor: Making plausible changes in the created content related to tone, delivery, styling, and localization.

3.)    Publisher: Releasing the content for the intended audience.

4.)    Administrator: The person responsible for management of the authorization to files and folders.

5.)    Viewer: The person who reads the content once it is published.
